I enjoy the process of starting with something I see outside and challenging myself to recreate that object using silver and gemstones. Each piece and every component is hand fabricated; nothing comes from a mold or is cast.
Starting Point
Everything is made from either sterling silver sheet or differing thickness (gauges) of sterling silver wire
Identifying & Sawing Shapes
I often will take a leaf (such as the Dandelion leaf here) flower or blossom and glue it directly onto silver. Each component is sawed out from the silver using very small saw blades. It takes practice to complete each piece without breaking several blades!
Texturing and Shaping
There are many different ways to texture and and shape silver. For the feather cuff I'm using engraving techniques to create the feature structure. For the dragonfly body I fused together scrap silver and use rotary tools to shape and define that mass. Stamping, hammering, imprinting patterns are additional ways to add texture and interest to a piece
Soldering
Soldering is a key component to jewelry making. The goal is to heat the solder up to just the right temperature to flow and join elements together. Too much heat will cause the silver to melt and ruin the piece.
Filing and Sanding

Antiquing and Polishing
Creating a final look for a piece is a matter of personal preference. Sometimes I will finish a piece with a high reflective polish; however, for most of my pieces I like to antique my pieces to enhance their texture.
